January 2018 - Mitch Fossier

Mitch Fossier

Team: University of Maine Black Bears (D1 College Hockey)

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Position: Left Wing

Birth Year: 1996

Height: 5’11

Weight: 185 lbs

Chosen Attribute: Serving

Why is this important to you?

Lately, serving has been a point of emphasis for me. The Bible is full of examples of Jesus and the apostle Paul serving and showing selfless behavior. Obviously, we are to live a life that reflects the way that Jesus lived, and Jesus was always serving.

When I look around at some of the greatest people I know, and the most joyful people I know, they all make conscious efforts to serve those around them. We are called to show love and love those around us. Serving others is one of the best ways we can do this, and the joy that comes along with it is extremely gratifying.

I do want to point out that even if joy wasn’t a result of serving, it would still be our calling as followers of God… but funny that the creator of the universe put tied joy and serving together!

Have you been involved with FCA or FCA Hockey in the past? What has been your experience with us? How has FCA Hockey impacted you?

I just recently got connected with FCA Hockey at the beginning of this season. I am a part of a huddle group with other college and pro guys that video call biweekly. It’s only been a short while, but I love it so far. I’ve been a Christian for a long time and a hockey player for a long time. But the two didn’t always coincide for me in a healthy way.

FCA has brought me a support group of guys who are living the same life I am in the hockey world. And, although I already knew this to be true, the constant reminder of our Identity coming from Christ and not our sport is unbelievably freeing. Hockey holds a culture of extremely passionate and determined individuals. To be able to share life with these guys and, at the same time show God’s love and the joy he has given me, is an absolute blessing.

What is your favorite scripture verse? Why is this important to you?

I’d say probably my favorite verse is Philippians 4:6 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

In my life, this is a verse I constantly come back to, and I think it is a great depiction of what our relationship with God should look like. First, this verse tells us not to be anxious because we don’t have to be. If I believe in a God who created the world and everything in it, then I don’t think there is really a reason for me to live anxiously when that same God is the one who wrote the script for my life. He is all powerful, all knowing, and loves me. This is amazing news, and means I can live a joyous life without worry.

Obviously this is easier said than done, and there are many times when this is a struggle to remember and embrace in the moment, but that’s why I love this verse. It constantly reminds me of the way I should strive to think. The other reason is that this verse depicts the relationship that God wants with us. It says “In every situation” go to Him. I have a personal relationship with God, and He wants to hear from me all the time. How wonderful it is that God wants me to go to him in every situation to talk with Him.

How did you hear about FCA Hockey?

I got connected to FCA through my roommate, Chase Pearson.

What else should we know about you (future goals in hockey, family members, what church do you go to, favorite stuff outside of hockey, etc.)

I’m a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Maine, and I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in a family that showed me from a young age what it looks like to serve God, and when I reached a point in my life where it became my faith (Not my parents or my families), I came to the conclusion that this whole God thing is absolutely true. I can’t really rap my head around it not being true. I look at the people and the world around me, as well as the emotion and love that I experience, and believe that there has to be a divine Creator. For the last decade, I’ve attended North Point Community Church back home.

I have one older brother, Zach Fossier, who is a recent graduate from University of Georgia, and a professional videographer now. My mother and father are Michigan State University grads, and that is where they met.

I grew up in a family where I was put on skates from a young age, and I loved it. My father grew up playing hockey, and played D1 hockey at Yale as well. Although Atlanta wasn’t the largest hockey market, there was enough of it where I could play at competitive levels growing up. There are now several other players from the Atlanta area playing Division one hockey (a handful of past teammates from my youth and my roommate and teammate here at the University of Maine, Chase Pearson).

I left home when I was seventeen to play juniors. I played for the Janesville Jets of the NAHL my first year, and the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL my second year before I came to Maine.

I’m a hockey player with ambitions of taking this sport as far as I can. The sport obviously holds so much excitement, and I’ve met some of my favorite people in this world playing the sport through teammates, coaches, and host families.

I’d say that my other worldly passion aside from hockey is music. I grew up with neighbors who were seriously good musicians, and I started to get into it when I was ten or eleven. I’ll pick up pretty much any instrument I can get my hands on and play that thing for hours. I love playing, writing, and recording (audio engineering), which a large part of what I am studying here at the University of Maine.

Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you're
using? I'm going to start my own blog in the near future but
I'm having a hard time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something
completely unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic
but I had to ask! Quest bars cheap fitnesstipsnew1
